Interlibrary Loan Policies

Interlibrary loan (ILL) provides current Mills students, faculty, and staff access to books, individual chapters, articles, and other items that the library does not own.

Books usually take about 2 weeks to arrive; chapters and articles can often be obtained in 2-3 business days.

Most books can be ILLed, but some rare items may be unavailable to borrow.

We will contact you via email when your ILL is ready to be picked up at the circulation desk. Please pick it up promptly. The due date for books is set by the owning library and can vary. If you have placed a request that you no longer need, please let us know.

Contact Interlibrary Loans within one week of the due date to request a renewal. It is up to the owning library to approve any renewal requests.

ILL is a shared resource. Returning items on time and in good condition helps maintain our relationships with other libraries and ensures that this service is available to other patrons. The library asks your help in keeping those connections strong by using the service responsibly.

Repeatedly keeping items past their due dates, returning items damaged, or requesting multiple items that are not picked up can result in suspension of ILL privileges. Patrons are responsible for any fines, fees, or charges issued by the owning library for overdue, damaged, or lost items.
